Caribay - Guardian of Lore
According to a Mirripuye Legend of Venezuela, Caribay was the first woman the ever walk on Earth. She was the daughter of the Sun and the Moon, and she knew the language of birds. She climbed up to the Mountains of Merida to pursue five white eagles perched atop. But the eagles flew away out of fear, and their white plumage covered the mountains, turning to snow.
For the Snowy Mountains of Merida legend of Guardian of Lore, the Round 2 Games team decided to convert Caribay into a Mini-Boss, which needed to be saved from magical corruption.
I was in charge of providing the character design for Caribay, as well as concepting the first instance of the corruption that eats at Caribay and most of the "good natured" characters from the folktales.

The first iteration of Caribay's model sheet had a more extreme form of corruption that simulated magical rot.
After feedback from the team, a more subtle corruption was chosen, so Caribay's native clothing could be more prominent. Nonetheless, she implements vegetation from Merida (such as frailejones and ferns) on her costume.
At first, Caribay was going to be made out of local nature from Merida, so the first green sillhouettes reflect that.
For the corrupted version of Caribay, some ice and magical sketches were produced.
These were some ideas for a more abstract form of corruption for Caribay.
